Methodology

Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR)

Specimen Requirements

cobas PCR Media Urine kit  or  Dual Swab kit (oropharyngeal, rectal, cervical, vaginal, endocervical, male urethral swab)

 

Specimen Minimum Volume: swab should be put into tube with media. Urine should be added to media until the volume reaches the urine minimum fill line

 

Shipping Instructions: Urine should be added to the media within 24 hours of collection. Refrigerate urine if unable to add to media immediately after collection. Swabs should be kept at room temperature.

 

Specimen Stability Information: one week

 

Special Instructions: If Chlamydia and N. gonorrhoeae PCR is also ordered, only one sample is needed to perform all testing.
