Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:  The preferred sample type syringes containing dry, electrolyte-balanced heparin. Properly collected and filled heparinized tubes without gel are also acceptable. 

Specimen:  Full syringe/tube
Collection Instructions:  For pediatrics, draw 0.5 mL of blood in a green MICROTAINER®. Immediately place specimen on wet ice.

Note:  Label tube with patient’s full name and 1 additional unique patient identifier such as date of birth, medical record number, emergency ID number, date and time of draw, collector’s initials, and type of specimen.
