Methodology

Automated Cell Counter (SysmexTM)

Includes white blood cell (WBC) count, red blood cell (RBC) count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, red blood cell indices (MCV, MCH, MCHC), red cell distribution width (RDW), and platelet count.

Reference Values

Age and sex dependent.

An interpretive report will be provided.

Physician Office Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:  3.0-mL lavender-top (EDTA) tube
Specimen:  Full tube (minimum volume:  2 mL)
Collection Instructions:  For pediatrics, draw 0.5 mL of blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) MICROTAINER®.

Note:  Label tube with patient’s full name and 1 additional unique patient identifier such as date of birth, medical record number, emergency ID number, date and time of draw, collector’s initials, and type of specimen.
