Methodology

Glucose Oxidase/Hydrogen Peroxide (Trinder)

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:  Preferred: 3.0 mL gray-top tube

Acceptable: 4.5 mL Lithium Heparin (Mint Green top PST Gel) tube or 5.0 mL SST (Gold top) tube or 6.0 mL Serum (Red top) tube

Specimen:  Full tube
Collection Instructions:  Fasting - overnight (8-16 hour).  For pediatrics, draw blood in a green-top MICROTAINER®.

Note:   1.  If glucose is the only test ordered, draw specimen in a grey-top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluroride) 2. Label tube with patient’s full name and 1 additional unique patient identifier such as date of birth, medical record number, emergency ID number, date and time of draw, collector’s initials, type of specimen, and appropriately as fasting specimen.
