Specimen must be delivered to laboratory within 1 hour of collection.
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Clean-Catch, Midstream
Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container - Preservative tube is acceptable.
Specimen: Clean-catch, midstream urine
Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions: Cleanse periurethral area with soap and water. Rinse with warm water. Void a small amount of urine into toilet. Collect next portion of urine in a screw-capped, sterile container. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Cystoscopy
Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container
Specimen: First-morning urine collection
Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions: Specimen collected through cystoscope by physician or in operating room. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Ileal Conduit
Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container
Specimen: First-morning urine collection
Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions: Remove external device and cleanse stomal opening. Insert catheter using sterile technique into stomal opening. Collect urine drainage in a screw-capped, sterile container. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Indwelling Catheter
Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container - Preservative tube is acceptable.
Specimen: First-morning urine collection
Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions: Aseptically collect urine from catheter collection port using a sterile needle and syringe. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Nephrostomy
Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container
Specimen: First-morning urine collection
Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions: Collect urine from nephrostomy tube and place in a screw-capped, sterile container. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note: Label container with patient’s full name and 1 additional unique patient identifier such as date of birth, medical record number, emergency ID number, date and time of collection, collector’s initials, and type of specimen.
Percutaneous Nephrostomy
Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container
Specimen: First-morning urine collection
Temperature: Ambient - Do not place on wet ice or refrigerate.
Collection Instructions: Aseptically collect urine by percutaneous needle aspiration from site of kidney and place in a screw-capped, sterile container. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.

Straight Catheter
Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container
Specimen: First-morning urine collection
Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions: Cleanse catheter insertion area. Insert catheter. Discard initial portion of urine. Collect next portion of urine in a screw-capped, sterile container. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Suprapubic Aspirate
Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container
Specimen: ≥1 mL of urine
Temperature: Ambient - Do not place on wet ice or refrigerate.
Collection Instructions: Aseptically collect urine by percutaneous needle aspiration from bladder and place in a screw-capped, sterile container. If anaerobes are requested also submit a BBLTM Port-a-CulTM anaerobic fluid vial. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
