Specimen Requirements
Deliver specimen to laboratory within 15 minutes of draw.
Container/Tube: 3.0-mL lavendar-top (EDTA) tube
Specimen: Full tube
Collection Instructions: Immediately place specimen on wet ice. For pediatrics, draw blood in a 0.5-mL lavendar-top MICROTAINER®. . If needed, EDTA samples may be stored at 2-8 °C for 3 hours or less. EDTA plasma samples are stable at ≤ -20°C for 24 hours when processed and frozen immediately after collection.
Note: Label tube with patient’s full name and 1 additional unique patient identifier such as date of birth, medical record number, emergency ID number, or financial number. Date and time of draw, collector’s initials, and type of specimen are also required.
